Going Green With Your Small Business Startup

green small business startupIf you are considering starting a ‘green’ business, you need take into consideration that this is a big commitment.  Promoting your business as being green can open you and your business up to close scrutiny.  Claiming that your business is green while your practices are not is considered ‘greenwashing‘.  If your claim to being green is found to be false, you run the chance of ruining your business brand and reputation.

Green businesses must practice green standards, especially if you plan to market your business as such.  To help you start green and remain green, the Green Web Hosting Blog has written a list to help you make sure your startup is eco-friendly.  In “50 Ways To Make Your Startup Eco-Friendly” you can learn about such things as building green, energy saving ideas, green marketing, and tips to help you maintain your green office.

Unfortunately “green” has become a popular marketing gimmick. This is good because it paves the way for many eco-friendly opportinities, but like you said, it can be abused and must be kept under close scrutiny.

I am planning to offer a “green” option for my customers to consult with them to help them ensure their computer systems are running as energy friendly as possible. I think eveyone in business should find a way to contribute to energy efficiency, even small steps can make a big difference if eveyone is doing it.

Even though you may not be able to claim your business as being completely “green”, if we all make small changes they can add up to a world of difference. Remembering that we are all resposible for what’s happening environmentally is the key. We all can make small changes that won’t affect the quality of our products or services.
