Congratulations you’ve just given birth to a brand new bouncing baby, your business. You’ve spent agonizing months or years waiting for this very moment. You’re beaming with pride and you can’t wait to nurture your new baby into a healthy, mature and successful business. But first, what are you going to name your new baby? You want something that reflects your own personality while representing your business properly.
I came across some great advice to consider when initially naming your new business. Consider these Five Tips For Naming Your Business from Flying Solo author Heather Smith. Just like with a living and breathing human baby, the name is an important decision. It’s pretty much permanent and is the first impression of your business that customers will get. So go ahead and choose your baby’s name wisely. Soon you’ll be able to show off your labor of love to everyone around.

Thanks for providing that link. And the analogy between a new business and a new baby is spot on! Names (both of people and of businesses) are very, very critical and will determine how people approach you.
Nice piece!

Thanks for pointing to us those tips Amanda. You know what, naming our business even for our domain names is really a tough task to do.
Tip 5. Set yourself apart — is my fave. Heather Smith did hit the sweet spot for that.
My sole trader (sole proprietorship) business is called Egoist International Business Coordinator. I first sent in the suggestion EGO international business coordinator to the companies registration office, but that thought that EGO was too common name. I then started an email conversation with the bureaucrat on the agency and changed the first word to Egoist and explained for the person about the philosophical meaning of the name Egoist and the origin of the word ego.
I will build a new website called Ego Sole Trader for small business owners who want to get moral support and fuel for their spirit.
G’day,
