I tell them what I think and move away from thwm.
If someone is negative towards me,in any way,I let them know I aren't comfortable accepting that kind of behaviour.
they will either apologise and show me more respect or we will spolit and go in seperate directions.

If you are confident in yourself and your product/service, negative nellies should not have a significant impact on you at all. You have to accept that it is simply part of doing business. I find that people who are consistently negative have internal mental, and sometimes unknown physical, challenges that causes them to behave that way. In the end I empathize because it really must be painful to live with a negative outlook.

Now if you find that you are running into negative nellies all the time, then its time to look at your self and your product/service.

The web is a place where people are going to throw negativity at you regardless. There's always one! Handle it professionally. if their point/argument is completly baseless then you don't always have to counter with a respone. Readers are intelligent enough to form their own opinions about what people are saying. But if you do need to counter with your own opinion don't get involved in mud slinging contest. As I said, be professional. Wrote a post on my blog ages ago that's relavant: http://blog.loopthing.com/how-to-handle-negative-feedback/

Excellent reference Amanda. If I suddenly meet these kind of people, I usually step back a little and grab a few minutes to relax. Of course, it's very inevitable that we can be affected to what they have said about you and/or your business. I don't want to impulsively react to that situation. When I already have relaxed, that is when I respond.

I try to stay away from negative people. I am seeking out individuals who have a positive outlook on life. A central concept for me is the Benevolent Universe Premise. http://bit.ly/Wgv6

If you have "Negative Nellies", could you mention the positive counterpart? Perhaps "Positive Paulas"?! :)

I don't think that "Express Your Feelings" is the best advice. Sometimes it's better to keep your feelings to yourself and remember about your image and reputation. "Putting Yourself in Their Shoes" helps a lot. But even if you still feel that the "negative" person is wrong, responding positively always helps. Sometimes we also have to deal with such negative people among our customers. What we're trying to do is to make them feel that we care for their opinion and that we will do our best to keep them satisfied. Sometimes, negative people just need to know, that you're listening to them, and not ignoring their point of view.
