A week ago, at this time, CES was just getting into the full swing of things. Anita Campbell of Small Business Trends attended and spoke at the event. During the event, Anita listened to Guy Kawasaki’s presentation on the subject of Twitter.
After Guy’s speech, Anita came away with 10 great nuggets of Twitter wisdom. She shared these gems with the American Express Open Forum readers in the article “10 Tips I Got From Guy Kawasaki at CES“.
I have to say that I did learn a few new things even though I thought I had a pretty good handle on using Twitter. One of his tips was most surprising to me…
Repeat your tweets. According to Guy, “We repeat each tweet 4 times. Each time we tweet, something gets an average of 600 click-throughs regardless of how many times we tweet it. If we had stopped at one tweet, we would have limited the potential of that tweet to 600 visits, instead of 600 x 4 visits” to the site where the link leads.
I had previously thought it was a no, no to repeat my tweets. I was under the impression that once was enough and I should move on. I guess I can see his point especially when you send these tweets out at different times of the day.
I’m going to start implementing a few of these concepts and see what happens. I’m curious, did you pick up any new and interesting ideas from this list of Twitter tips?

You know, the repetition of tweets is something I’ve tried with much success, too. At first, it doesn’t make sense, but when you realize that it captures different audiences each time, it’s more understandable. Twitter is a different universe and we’re only starting to explore how best to navigate it!

Guy Kawasaki’s has a powerhouse of microblogging activities. The tweet messages are going to his site (powered by Posterous) and then to outgoing links to other places.

Repeating tweets is controversial, but I think it makes total sense, especially the way Guy explained it. I think Guy is very very smart.
Also, I want to point out that Guy delivers tremendous value. He tweets incredibly useful stuff, and a huge variety of stuff. So lots of tweets go by in between something he repeats. It’s not like he repeats the same thing 5 times a day, day in and day out, with no other value delivered in between.
Now, am I ready to start tweeting all my tweets four times each? No. But I do occasionally repeat something, especially if it was something that I tweeted on the weekend and didn’t think many people saw. Or I may tweet a couple of times about upcoming events. And I have discovered that the second time I tweet something, often it gets more clicks and retweets, than the first time I mentioned it. So that tells me a lot of people missed the tweet the first time — proving Guy’s point.
