Improving Efficiency At The Workplace: Why It’s Important and How To Do It

As a small business owner you probably find yourself juggling multiple projects and small tasks at the same time and end up the day feeling frustrated because you seem not to be moving forward with your to-do list. Things can be a little bit more difficult if you are an inventor and you need to find free time off from your full time job to devote yourself to your creations. Everything seems to distract you and you don’t feel efficient at all.

Struggling in time management

Efficiency at the workplace is of utmost importance. It is the key to achieve goals and results and it is the best way to get our projects and tasks done. When we are efficient, we learn how to prioritize tasks and how to delegate those that can be done by somebody else under our supervision. It also makes it simpler to see progress and to stay focused on what’s really important for longer.

Fortunately, full time small business owners and inventors can improve their efficiency at the workplace. Let’s read these small and useful tips to get you started:

Go Step by Step

Entrepreneurs like you can easily improve their efficiency at the workplace by establishing steps to reach their goals. Thus, no task becomes too big or difficult to handle or achieve as it is divided into multiple smaller tasks. Whether you need to polish your invention idea or you need to test the physical prototype of your invention or whether you need to improve the number of potential customers your agents reach, dividing these tasks into sizeable steps will help you be more efficient.

Avoid Distractions

Staying focused on what you have to do is the key to be more efficient. If you work at home and the TV on gets you hooked on the daily news or the talk show, turn it off. If Internet tempts you to check your friends’ status on Facebook every couple of minutes or to check new emails in your inbox every so often, establish 15 minutes breaks every couple of hours during which you can browse the Internet and do whatever you want. Make sure that during the other 105 minutes you stay tuned to what you have to do.

Manage Time Efficiently

Plan your day ahead. It will help you be more organized and relieve you from unnecessary stress from finding yourself trying to fit getting hundreds of tasks done over a short period of time. If you know well ahead that you’ll be busier than usual, schedule only the most important things to get done that day. It will be easier for you to use your time more efficiently and it will make you feel that your day has been really productive.

Hardest Things First

Plan your day in such a way that you handle the hardest things early in the morning. Whether as an inventor you need to come up with a marketing plan for your invention or if you need to look into your invention prototype for flaws in the design or functioning, grab that hard task first. You’ll have a clearer mind early in the morning and it will be easier for you to concentrate.

Declutter your Desk

It may seem quite a basic tip but, how can you be a more efficient small business manager if your desk is chaotic and it takes you ages to find a ball pen or that important document? Decluttering your desk will help you be more efficient.

As it can be appreciated, it is not difficult to improve our efficiency in the workplace.

I remember I worked for a software company (FDM4) Can you image they actually took our breaks away so we could be more productive! What loser… short story, it created more hate in the workplace, reduced workloads and caused more distractions from people randomly taking coffee breaks.
