Find Your Purpose
You should have goals in life but, more importantly, you should have a purpose. A goal is something that you wish to achieve. A goal is something to strive for and is an objective. In other words, the goal is the what you’re striving for. The purpose is the why. It is the reason you want to achieve certain goals because they will work to fulfill what your purpose in life is all about.
For instance, if you are looking to get a promotion at work as your goal, the reason for wanting it could be to afford more travel. Your purpose in life is to see the world and learn about different cultures and the goal is the means to make it happen.
Knowing what your purpose is will help you identify goals to strive for as well as understand what the barriers are that you’ll face.
Don’t Avoid Challenges
People can be like water and always seek the path of least resistance. This is not good for a growth mindset. Seek out challenges so you can tone your growth mindset muscles.
It’s sort of like going to the gym and adding more weights onto the machine when you get used to the old limit. You have to work through the challenge to be able to move forward.
Take Time to Reflect
You can’t be a hurdle busting machine and just keep plowing ahead all day every day. You do need to stop and take some time for reflection. There needs to be some downtime that allows you to rest your brain and body and simply be.
By taking this time, you can actually see where you are heading and think about what you can be doing better. You’ll become aware of areas that can be improved in your professional as well as personal life.
This time will also be useful for reevaluating goals and your purpose. Instead of mindlessly pursuing a goal, you can think about if your priorities have changed so you can get more out of your pursuits.
