Very insightful, thank you. Sometimes I think the best way to view outsourcing is to consider what you love most about your job. If outsourcing something that you aren't so passionate about (and that someone else is) you free up your mind, heart and time for building your business in the areas you do best.

Laura:

As a virtual CFO, I couldn't agree with you more. And I think that a good deal of small business owners and entrepreneurs are opening their eyes to the flexibility that outsourcing brings.

Great, thoughtful piece!

Thanks, everyone!

Martin, there are a ton of resources online. Unluckily, I don't have a short list of good sites for you. Many of them focus on off-shoring or total outsourcing of a department. I often see focus on the "how" and not the "why" (a bit of the cart before the horse, no?). Keep an eye on who the site partners with (software or outsourcing partner) to make sure you understand its slant. Best wishes!

I agree Laura. These outsourcing trend has really helped us SMBs to survive, continue to grow with a lot of savings than actually hiring a full time employee for us.

This is great advice for SMBs. As an outsourced IT provider, Miles Technologies helps customers by providing expertise and consultation, alleviating temporary peaks in staffing, and more. You really touched on just how effective IT Outsourcing can be in advancing SMBs beyond what the capabilities and size of their own in-house IT staff can handle.

Outsourcing can be a very effective solution to small businesses for all of the reasons you've mentioned here. The other great thing is that you get exactly what you're looking for - whatever expertise is needed, you can find it. So you know exactly what you're getting for the funds being spent. It's a great way to grow your business one step at a time. Excellent contribution, Laura, and very insightful.
