Thomas Baskind, CEO of Baskind Advisors, was born on February 21, 1947, in Astoria, Queens, to Angela and Haskell Baskind.

After graduating from St. Francis Prep in 1964, he pursued higher education at Fordham University, where he was twice honored with the New York Daily News-Joseph Medill Patterson Scholarship in Journalism. Fordham University declared the recipients of the prestigious 18th annual Joseph Medill Patterson scholarships in Journalism. The well-deserved awardees are Thomas J. Baskind, 19, and Stephen R. Vallance, 20. The scholarships, valued at $1,000 each, were established by Fordham in honor of its esteemed founder and publisher.

Tom’s dedication to journalism has been recognized once as he was a recipient of the Patterson scholarship for the second consecutive year. His commitment to the journalism field is evident through his involvement as a staff member of the Ram, Fordham’s esteemed undergraduate newspaper. Additionally, Thomas has showcased his talent as a part-time reporter for the esteemed Long Island Press.

Beyond his academic pursuits, Thomas has actively contributed to Fordham’s Public Information Office as a student member. He also held a position at the esteemed Raymond Wood public relations firm. His passion for journalism is reflected in every aspect of his life, from his work to teaching and helping young minds become educated. Thomas is a proud alumnus of St. Francis Prep, Brooklyn, where he honed his skills and developed a profound love for the art of storytelling.

The commendable ceremony took place at The NEWS Building’s Joseph Medill Patterson Room, located at 220 E. 42nd St. Richard W. Clarke, the editor, had the honor of presenting the scholarships to the winners, celebrating their remarkable achievements in journalism.

Continuing his academic journey, Thomas earned a Master’s Degree from the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His graduate thesis, titled “Conflict as a Simplifying Reporting Technique: A Question of Press Responsibility,” explored pertinent issues in journalism. Throughout his career, Thomas was actively involved in various professional associations, including Sigma Delta Chi and the Association for Education in Journalism. He also served as a guest lecturer at Fordham University’s Communications Department.

With unwavering loyalty to his Alma Maters, Fordham University held a unique and cherished place in his heart. The scholarships he received from the university provided him with an invaluable opportunity that left a lasting impact, one he deeply appreciated and carried with him throughout his entire life.

A scholarship for Fordham students was created as a special Fordham University scholarship titled; Thomas J. Baskind, FCRH ‘68, Endowed Scholarship which has been established to provide opportunities to future generations of Fordham students.

Thomas’s professional path encompassed diverse roles, demonstrating his versatility and expertise. He held notable positions as the Editor of Field and Stream Magazine, Vice President of CBS Sports, and Director of Global Vendor Management at Deutsche Bank. In the latter stages of his career, he ventured into self-employment as a sales consultant and Sales Manager.

As a CEO, Thomas Baskind created an abundance of achievements and contributions to the fields of journalism, sports media, and business. His dedication and passion continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
